Dear friends and supporters,
Here’s our ECho from the field! ECho matches our name and at the same time represents our most important values: a sense of compassion and a lasting impact through acts of kindness. With our work, we hope to create a ripple effect that continues to inspire and support humans over time. After their time in Paréa Lesvos, the members of our community will always bring with them that feeling of safety, care, compassion and connection they shared with others. At the same time, with our advocacy work, we strive to inspire our followers, friends and supporters, including you, by showing them that the energy we put into the world, particularly through caring actions, can have a far-reaching and enduring influence on other people's lives.

Updates from Paréa
In the past few weeks, the number of arrivals and camp residents started to increase leading to a higher number of visitors to our community center, Paréa Lesvos. In particular, the newly established bus service, which made our center easier to reach from the camp and more accessible for people with higher vulnerability, has been particularly appreciated by the many women and children who have been increasingly joining our activities. The latter were especially excited about the ice-cream distributions we organized regularly during the last weeks, as well as the clown shows offered three times a week by our partner organization Red Noses International.
While the regular services continue, among the newest offerings in the center there are:🚲 Training sessions on bike repairs offered by our partner Makerspace for anyone interested in learning new skills;
🧩 Problem solving group sessions offered by the psychologists of our partners Boat Refugee Foundation (BRF) and Terra Psy;
💈 A barber shop open twice a week for a quick trim, a nice chat and a moment of self-care, offered by our partner Refugee Assistance Doro Blancke.
As for the Europe Cares long-term team, there was a special occasion in August: after many months of working across teams in Germany, Greece and all over Europe and only meeting online, we finally managed to gather (almost) all together on Lesvos! It was a great opportunity to discuss the next steps forward and find a moment to appreciate each other’s work which is the solid foundation of our beautiful Paréa community.

Updates from Frankfurt
We’re excited to announce an upcoming movie event in Frankfurt and you’re all invited. Join us next Thursday September 26th for a screening of “Samia” at Mal Seh'n Kino in Frankfurt. The projection will be followed by a panel discussion about the movie, migration, and the need for safe passages in collaboration with different organizations active in the sector.
🎬 A bit more about the movie:
Samia follows the true story of Samia Yusuf Omar from Mogadishu, Somalia, who dreams of running at the Olympics, despite the dangers of the ongoing civil war and harassment she experiences. In 2008, Samia is selected to represent Somalia at the Beijing Olympics, and after these games her dream continues as she aims for the London 2012 Olympics. Her story from here is all too common amongst those seeking safety and reminds us of the continuous struggles that those seeking safety encounter, and how little has been done to create safe passages for those forced to flee their homes.
We look forward to seeing you there and getting to know each other in person!

Ongoing Campaign | NEW MERCH LINE
During these difficult times, we believe it’s more important than ever to spread messages of solidarity for people on the move and resistance against the growing tides of intolerance we’re witnessing in Europe. For this reason, we’ve decided to launch a new line of merchandise named “WeAr(e)Solidarity”. You can find it on https://everpress.com/profile/europe-cares and, by purchasing a T-shirt for yourself or a friend, you can directly support our project. You have time until Friday the 27th of September to buy one and join our community in solidarity!

Our community in solidarity needs people like you to keep fighting for a world where everyone feels safe and welcomed! Every small donation makes a difference in the lives of people on the move. Thank you for considering this important commitment and for being an integral part of Europe Cares!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via silvia.lucibello@europecares.org. We are happy to share more info on our work and the situation on the island.
With the best wishes and a hug from Lesvos,
Silvia
