Dear friends,
After the fire at Camp Moria, Lesvos has disappeared from the public eye. Yet the Greek island continues to be the site of daily human rights violations — such as inhumane living conditions in the camp. As waves of intolerance and racism are rapidly spreading across Europe, it is more important than ever to resist these attitudes, to fight for a just and inclusive society, and to keep safe spaces alive. Within this context of shrinking support and the subsequent declining presence of NGOs on Lesvos, Parea Lesvos - the largest community center of its kind in Greece - urgently needs support to continue being one such vital safe space where people on the move can access essential services on the island.
So help us stand against oppression and resist indifference by joining Paréa! We are excited to share that we have just launched our 2025 winter fundraiser to continue ensuring that people on the move can access everything they need in a safe space while experiencing a strong sense of community and belonging. Nach dem Brand von Camp Moria ist Lesbos aus der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung verschwunden. Dennoch ist die griechische Insel immer noch ein Tatort von Menschenrechtsverletzungen, z.B. unzumutbaren Lebensbedingungen im Lager. In Zeiten, in denen sich Wellen von Intoleranz und Rassismus in Europa ausbreiten, ist es wichtiger denn je, Widerstand zu leisten, für eine gerechte und integrative Gesellschaft zu kämpfen und sichere Räume am Leben zu erhalten. In diesem Kontext von schwindender Unterstützung und der nachfolgenden rückläufigen Präsenz von NGOs auf Lesbos, braucht Paréa Lesvos - das größte Gemeinschaftszentrum seiner Art in Griechenland - dringend Unterstützung, so dass es weiter als ein sicherer Ort, wo Menschen auf der Flucht wesentliche Dienste auf der Insel erhalten können. Also setz ein Zeichen für Solidarität und unterstütze Paréa Lesvos! Wir freuen uns Ihnen mitteilen zu können, dass wir diese Woche unsere Winter-Aktion 2025 starten. Ziel dieser Winteraktion ist es, weiterhin sicherzustellen, dass Menschen auf der Flucht alles Notwendige in einem positiven und warmherzigen Umfeld erhalten und gleichzeitig ein Gefühl von Gemeinschaft und Solidarität erleben.
