3 Years! That's 3 years already!
It is still difficult to believe. What started as a leap of faith, where we would take responsibility for 6 months to do everything possible to keep the community center One Happy family open, has become an adventure that is celebrating its third round around the sun. We have had more than 130,000 visits from people on the move, since Europe Cares took responsibility for this project, which we renamed Paréa Lesvos, back in 2022.
It has not been easy, as the more than 12 partner organizations we work with, are well aware. On a daily basis, we collaborate to provide much-needed services to the residents of the Mavrovouni camp (CCAC Lesvos) that come to visit. As Europe Cares, we could not be prouder of what we have achieved together over the years. The proof is that our doors are still open, more services are being offered, including medical services, and more partners have joined… and we want to keep it that way for as long as it is needed, and believe us, it still does!
It would be impossible to summarize in one paragraph everything that happened on the day of our anniversary, but we wanted to share with you some images that reflect the caring environment we wanted to create, where the joy of celebration is combined with the harmony of a living community!

Our Child Friendly Space at Paréa is finally open! Created by Europe Cares, this new space offers children aged 3 to 5 a safe and welcoming place to play, learn, and simply enjoy being kids—just a few minutes away from the refugee camp. Thanks to the kind support of @24GuteTaten, we opened our doors the past Monday. The smiles on the children’s and parents’ faces were the best reminder of how much this space matters.
For little ones growing up in refugee camps, places like this are rare—but so needed. They provide safety, emotional comfort, and a sense of normal life in the middle of so much uncertainty.
Our current fundraising campaign aims to increase the number of monthly contributors in order to have a more consistent income to support our growing needs, such as a special bus trip from Mavrovouni Camp, to Paréa, exclusively for the children and their caretakers, avoiding the 20 minutes walk that takes to arrive, having to go through dangerous crossroads.
