Together, we saved Paréa Lesvos - Let's keep going in 2024!

Dear friends and supporters,

We are incredibly grateful for your huge support and efforts regarding our campaign to ‘Save Paréa Lesvos’. With your help, we collected over 50.000€ and are able to keep our doors open in 2024. New record numbers of visitors at Paréa in the first few days of the year make it clear that our center is needed more than ever before. Thank you for giving us this chance to continue supporting people on the move!

Whilst the conditions in the camp continuously get worse with increasing new arrivals, many People on the Move (PoM) are housed in mass tents without privacy, heating, or electricity. In the past several days, even cold water has been cut off to some zones in the camp. From the current estimated 5.500 residents in the camp, a third of them are children. Meanwhile, food insecurity for over 1.000 people caused by restrictions on the official distributions continues. The political situation creates more pressure day by day - for both people on the move and NGOs, but we will not give up!

With our petition, we are appealing to the European Union to stop denying food to 1.044 PoM with either positive or negative decisions because they have been cut off from the daily food distribution inside the CCAC Mavrovouni camp on Lesvos. Through creating political pressure, we want to accomplish a change of the policy on food provision so that all people in the camp have access to food, no matter their asylum decision. Sign our petition and help us make a change, because: Access to food is a human right!

To look back on the impact of our work in the past year - thanks to your support and donations -  we want to list a few concrete facts and figures. This was 2023 in Paréa:

While last year’s campaign has allowed us to continue into 2024, we still rely on your support to keep going throughout the upcoming months. For this purpose, we will extend our campaign going forward. If possible by you, a regular donation allows us to better plan ahead and reliably serve our visitors in Paréa - one visit in Paréa costs us about 2-3€ per visitor - so every small donation matters! Besides donations, we also appreciate your support through sharing our posts and forwarding this newsletter. Thank you so much for being an integral part of our cause. With Paréa Lesvos, we will continue to provide a safe and welcoming space, to give back and strengthen humanity!

If you have any questions, comments, or ideas, please do not hesitate to reach out - we would love to hear from you!
